My mission as a hair stylist is to not only help people feel beautiful and confident within themselves but to also better their hair care knowledge in particularly for those with curly and afro hair.

"Follow your dreams"  is a powerful saying...

Even before going to University I knew I would eventually want my own business and to work for myself, but I was unsure what that business could be.  Of course, I was always exploring ideas of other professions but the ultimate end goal would be to work independently, for myself.

Following a conversation with a very close friend of mine, I came to realise the best business to indulge in is something you love doing. I had read various articles and blogs during my years of research that also shared the idea of starting a business doing something you love as that will bring you the most success, so I knew that I should listen to this advice.

From a child I have always loved doing hair... I taught myself to canerow before the age of 10 using dolly heads - most notoriously the Bratz dolly heads. By the age of 10 I had taught myself how to canerow my own hair. Around this time, my mother asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I did reply saying I wanted to be a hairdresser and/or a professional dancer, but my mother at the time was not impressed. She encouraged me to study hard and become a doctor, lawyer and/or teacher.

Whilst people recognized my skill and talent for hair, I never paid attention to it. I saw it as more of a casual hobby.

Throughout my teenage years, family  and friends would pay me to canerow their and/or their child's hair. This wasn’t regular but it did happen on occasions throughout my teenage years.

By the time I was 20 and studying at university, I decide to go natural with my hair which meant I started to experiment and learn how to do protective styles such as braids and crochet styles on myself. At University, others recognised my skill which led to me sometimes doing my friends hair too.

Through word of mouth the amount of people who I started doing hair for (friends, mutual friends, family) increased drastically over the span of four years. I had built up a portfolio of clients and it was then that I decided to create a business Instagram page and started to really market my business on this platform. From there my business has been organically growing for over the last 6 years.

Thinking back to the conversation with my mother when I was 10 years old, I took her advice of studying hard and getting a good education. Now at nearly 27 years old, I have a law degree, yet still, I’m pursing my passion... my childhood dream of becoming the best hairdresser and business women that I can be.

The good old saying of “Follow your dreams” really is powerful.

Thank you for those who have supported me all these years. Without you there would be no “Hair By Candy Campbell”. I love and appreciate you all.
