It’s common for Afro Kinky-Curly hair to shed on wash days or even in between . However, too much shedding could indicate that your hair is actually breaking as oppose to naturally shedding dead hair over the hair cycle.
HOW TO REDUCE SHEDDING:
Use a wide tooth comb to detangle or finger detangle
Moisturise your hair daily or at least every 2-3 days by using a leave conditioner and sealing with an oil and cream moisturiser (follow the LOC or LCO method)
Use less heat on your hair i.e, letting your hair air dry as oppose to using a hairdryer
Avoid using towels to dry your hair and use a micro-fibre towel or even an old T-Shirt to avoid snagging at the ends
Keep your hair in a protective style as this will reduce tangles, knotting and will keep your ends tucked away
Trim your hair regularly to get rid of split months every 3-4 months
BONUS TIP:
Try to minimise how often you manipulate your hair as over manipulating can weaken your hair, i.e, over combing and back to back styles such as braids etc.
Follow ALL the steps to help minimise shedding. You'll soon have better length retention and you'll see an overall improvement of the health of your natural hair.
